PCSwizz PC Tip of the Day: Surge Protection
May 15, 2008It is vital that you plug your PC equipment into a surge protector. Your computer’s electrical components and become damaged even by static electricity(you know when you walk across carpet and touch someone..ouch!), so you can imagine what a lightning strike can cause.
A surge can happen in these ways:
1) Lightning strikes an electrical pole, sending a “surge” of power into your home.
2) After a power outage, once the power comes back on, the initial “surge” of energy rushes into your computer and fries it.
So make sure you purchase a surge protector with enough “joules” to handle a decent surge. Joules are simply a rating of each power strip sold today. The more joules a protector has, the more extra power it can absorb.
Hope this Tip of the Day helped!
